Rainy Castleton Wedding & Sacred Heart Ceremony || Laura & AJ

A Legacy Necklace and a Photographer’s Epiphany at a Rainy Castleton Wedding

Laura and AJ’s rainy Castleton wedding was nothing short of magical. What made this day truly unforgettable wasn’t just the weather either. It was the incredible stories woven into their celebration.

One of the most touching details was the necklace Laura wore. This wasn’t just any necklace. It’s a diamond piece named Roxy, and its story is one of friendship, tradition, and legacy. When Laura’s mom graduated from medical school, she and eleven other women commissioned the necklace and each owned 1/12 of it. They created a rotating schedule so each woman would have Roxy for one month a year—ensuring everyone had it on their birthday and wedding anniversary. The schedule even rotated holidays so no one had it every Christmas. It was a rule that Roxy must be worn and never leave the country. Can you imagine the dedication it took to maintain that for years?

When the woman who managed the schedule passed away, Laura’s mom bought out the other shares, and Roxy became hers. Laura’s sister wore it on her wedding day, and now, it was Laura’s turn. With her mother’s blessing, I was able to share this story, and I have a feeling Roxy will be making appearances on many wedding days to come.

Later in the evening during the toasts, I found myself tearing up behind my camera. The words were heartfelt and deeply moving. And in that moment, I had a realization: the day I attend a wedding and don’t feel anything is the day I should hang up my camera. My job isn’t just to capture images. It’s to feel with my couples. To empathize. To notice the smallest expressions and the biggest emotions. If I ever lose that connection, I lose the heart of my work.

Laura and AJ’s day reminded me why I do this. Their rainy Castleton wedding was beautiful not just for the scenery, but for the love, emotion, and legacy that filled every moment.
