Rainy Knoxville Botanical Garden Engagement

Jess and Story flew in from Boston for a whirlwind weekend in East Tennessee. They toured their wedding venue and took their engagement photos. With their Airbnb dates locked in and my double-header wedding weekend already booked, we only had one shot to make it happen. And, of course, the forecast called for rain.

Knowing we might get soaked, I brought along umbrellas and mentally prepped for a romantic, rainy engagement session. And honestly? Knoxville Botanical Gardens is the perfect location for any kind of weather. It’s one of my all-time favorite places to shoot—so many beautiful, varied backdrops that no two sessions ever look the same.

But instead of the downpour we were bracing for, we were gifted a little magic—soft, overcast skies that diffused the light beautifully, and even a hint of sunshine breaking through the clouds. Jess & Story shined even brighter than the sun peeking out from behind the trees. The way she smiled at him, the way he looked at her—it was pure, effortless love. You could feel it in every glance, every touch. These two are naturals in front of the camera, and capturing their connection felt like the easiest thing in the world.

Their rainy Knoxville Botanical Gardens engagement session turned out to be the perfect blend of romance and real-life spontaneity. Sometimes the best moments are the ones you don’t plan—and this session was a reminder that love (and a little flexibility!) can turn a forecasted rainy day into something truly golden.

I can’t wait to document their wedding day next year at The Magnolia—it’s going to be incredible.
