When Lauren and Jonathan asked me to photograph their destination wedding in Mexico next February, I don’t think I’ve ever said “yes” faster. I absolutely love photographing weddings for couples who are planning something truly personal and meaningful. So, the idea of celebrating their big day oceanside is a total dream. We’re even turning it into a little family getaway… just applied for the kids’ passports yesterday!
But before we head south of the border, we celebrated the beginning of their journey together with the sweetest Gibbs Drive engagement session right here in Fountain City.
Originally, Lauren and Jonathan had their hearts set on Baxter Gardens for their spring engagement photos. Unfortunately, Baxter didn’t open to the public this year, so I had to get a little creative. Thankfully, I live on one of the most beautiful streets in Knoxville, and I knew it would be the perfect substitute. If you’ve ever visited during spring, you know exactly what I mean. Our neighborhood is a little floral wonderland this time of year.
We walked the entire street, stopping along the way to soak in all the blooms. Tulips, creeping phlox, azaleas, dogwood trees, and the most stunning wisteria vine. The pastel colors were in full glory, and Lauren and Jonathan’s outfit choices could not have been a more perfect complement. I’m completely obsessed with how these turned out.
The first set of portraits in front of the white dogwoods were taken right in front of my house! This session had such a fun, relaxed energy. They even brought one of my past AMP brides along to help with hair and fluffing, and yes, she may have even shaken a few branches from our own trees to create a petal “snow” moment. (Promise—we left the neighbors’ trees untouched!)
This Gibbs Drive engagement session has me so excited for their February wedding in Mexico. I can already tell it’s going to be the perfect blend of romantic, joyful, and full of thoughtful touches just like this shoot. Can’t wait to capture more of their story soon!
