I love a weekday wedding. Maybe it’s the quieter pace, the intentionality of choosing a day outside the norm, or the way it feels like the world slows down just a little bit in honor of the couple. Abbie & Hunter’s Nichols Heir week day wedding was exactly that kind of magic.
The days leading up to their celebration were a whirlwind for my family and me. We were traveling through the New England area while I photographed a wedding up there, and it brought back memories of our Maine trip in the fall of 2020. That was the trip where I experienced my very first apple cider margarita. It instantly became the best margarita I had ever tasted, and since then, I’ve been on an unintentional five year quest to find another one. I’ve searched all over Knoxville for them and even tried recreating them in my own kitchen, but nothing ever came close.
Fast forward to the morning of Abbie’s wedding. We were in the bridal suite chatting while I photographed her details, and she mentioned her signature cocktails for the reception. Her eyes lit up as she told me that she chose an apple cider margarita. My jaw actually dropped. Wait, what? I’ve been looking for that cocktail for five years!
If you know me, you know I never drink at weddings. It’s a personal and professional boundary I’ve always held because my couples deserve my full attention, and I never want to give off even a hint of unprofessionalism. But in this once-in-a-lifetime moment, Abbie herself granted me permission to have an apple cider margarita with my dinner. And, friends, it was everything I had remembered and more. Craving satisfied. Five year quest complete.
To top it off, the amazing team at The Whiskey Wench even let me snap a photo of their recipe, which is something I fully plan to try over Thanksgiving break.
Between the glass house glow of Nichols Heir, the sweetness of their weekday celebration, and the unexpected apple cider margarita, Abbie & Hunter’s wedding is one I’ll never forget. A stunning couple. A perfect day. And a story I’ll be telling for years.
