Photographing Molly and Peter’s Chatham Bars Inn Wedding was one of those experiences that felt like a dream. Not just for them, but for me, too. Cape Cod has been on our bucket list for years. Every time we planned our annual family adventure, we’d toss around the idea of the Cape, and then, somehow end up choosing someplace else. When the Meehans reached out about capturing their wedding in Cape Cod, however, I didn’t hesitate for a second. Not only was the date open on my calendar (thank you, Lord!), but I immediately started planning our family trip around it.
What I didn’t plan for quite as confidently was the weather. Early November in Cape Cod is infamous for gray clouds, chilly winds, unpredictable sprinkles, and conditions that change by the minute. As we approached Molly and Peter’s day, the forecast had a high chance of rain. Locals, as I later learned, were not optimistic. But by lunchtime, the rain cleared out exactly as predicted, and the sun broke through, bathing the coast in the most glorious New England light.
But the sweetest part of this wedding story began long before the forecast. The Meehan family has spent summers in Chatham since their kids were little. Every year, they’d walk past Chatham Bars Inn, and one summer, little Molly spotted a bride on the property. She took a photo under the iconic sign and proudly declared, “I’m going to get married here one day.” Year after year, she dreamed of it. And since the Inn is the destination wedding venue in Cape Cod, her parents quietly wondered if that dream was out of reach.
But as planning unfolded, one “yes” after another fell into place. Somehow, someway, they made it happen. On the morning of the wedding, Molly’s parents looked at each other with disbelief-turned-joy and said, “We freaking did it!”
I could fill pages and pages describing this perfect day. The stunning views, the emotional moments, the overwhelming gratitude I felt being part of this family’s story again. Capturing their first wedding a few years ago was the biggest gift, and now, I get to photograph their third and final family wedding next year in Virginia.
I adore this family. I cherish their trust. And I’ll forever be grateful that Molly’s childhood dream of a Chatham Bars Inn wedding brought our paths together in this beautiful corner of New England.
