There are certain families that just weave their way into your story as a photographer. For me, the Meehan family is absolutely one of them. My connection to Ajalyn & Sawyer goes back a couple years. I first photographed Sawyer’s oldest sister, Maiti, when she married Blake. Since then, I’ve also had the privilege of capturing Sawyer’s other sister, Molly, for her’s and Peter’s engagement session in Denver, Colorado, and will be joining them again soon for their Cape Cod wedding in less than a month!
And now, it’s Sawyer’s turn. When I say I was honored to be asked to photograph his wedding to the sweetest bride-to-be, Ajalyn, it’s the understatement of the century. Fun fact: on the very day Sawyer proposed, I was actually in the room with Maiti while photographing another wedding in their friend group. When she got the news, we both squealed and celebrated right there in between bridesmaid duties! Later that day, I saw their parents and got to celebrate all over again.
Their Mankin Mansion engagement in Richmond, Virginia, was the perfect mix of elegance and joy. This was my first time visiting Richmond, and we decided to make it a little family trip over fall break. We explored the city, took the kids to the incredible RVA Science Museum (highly recommend—it’s amazing for both kids and adults!), and then met up with Ajalyn and Sawyer at the stunning Mankin Mansion for their session.
From the moment we started, these two absolutely killed it. The laughter, the connection, and the way they effortlessly fit together made photographing them such a dream. Not to mention the stellar light we had and pretty perfect weather! The charm of Mankin Mansion’s historic architecture paired with their natural chemistry created pure magic.
Although I didn’t know Ajalyn as well as I did Sawyer beforehand, it took about five minutes for me to feel like we’d been friends for years. She’s warm, kind, and full of light just like the rest of this incredible family. This session is one I’ll remember forever and will absolutely have a place in my updated branding for years to come.
