St. John Neumann and The Mill & Mine || Alison & RJ

The Logistics of a Catholic Wedding Day

There’s something so timeless and meaningful about a Catholic wedding, and Alison & RJ’s day was the perfect example of that beauty. Their celebration began at St. John Neumann Church, a stunning stone building with stained glass windows and arched doorways that make the perfect backdrop for portraits. The ceremony began at 1:00pm, which is typical for Catholic weddings since the church schedules ceremonies around Saturday evening mass. Catholic ceremonies can last anywhere from 45–75 minutes, depending on whether couples choose to take communion and include other traditions. For Alison & RJ, it was a heartfelt ceremony filled with love, reverence, and emotion.

Because of the earlier ceremony time, there was a gap before their evening reception at The Mill & Mine. That in-between time was used beautifully for portraits, and thankfully, St. John Neumann is so gracious in allowing couples to use the stone walls and side doors for as long as they need (not every Catholic church offers this!). The light is always perfect there, and Alison & RJ’s portraits by Brittany Conner (lead) & Maese Baker (second) were absolutely stunning.

Their day started early with hair, makeup, details, and getting dressed so they could arrive at the church by 12:15pm. And since their reception didn’t begin until 5:45pm, it made for a long day—but one filled with joy from start to finish. Brittany & Maese photographed the day flawlessly. From the emotion in the sanctuary to the energy of the dance floor, they captured every single moment.

The Mill & Mine was the perfect reception space for Alison & RJ’s guests to eat, dance, and celebrate. When you scroll to the reception photos, you’ll see not only Alison & RJ busting the moves on the dance floor but also their parents and even grandparents. It literally makes my heart so happy to see grandparents living it up on a wedding day! The night ended with one of my favorite exit plans—a UT pom pom exit—a nod to their love for the University of Tennessee.

Alison & RJ’s Catholic wedding was a beautiful blend of tradition, joy, and celebration. It was such an honor to have the AMP team be part of documenting their love story!
