If you’ve never visited the Biltmore Estate, let me just say it absolutely lives up to the hype. Nestled in the mountains of Asheville, it feels grand no matter how many times you visit. From the perfectly manicured gardens to the historic architecture, every corner of the property offers something beautiful. I photographed my very first engagement session there years ago and immediately fell in love with it. Since then, I’ve made the 2-2.5 hour drive several times. Every single visit reminds me why it’s one of my favorite places for portraits.
When Destiny and Luis reached out about engagement photos, they already knew exactly where they wanted them taken. Even though they haven’t officially started planning their wedding, they knew the Biltmore Estate was the perfect backdrop for celebrating this season of their lives together. I was so excited when they reached out because any excuse to photograph at the Biltmore is one I’ll happily take.
The days leading up to their session had me watching the weather forecast a little too closely. It seemed like every update brought another chance of rain, and it wasn’t looking especially promising. But if you’ve lived in the Southeast for any amount of time, you know forecasts can change in an instant. Sure enough, the morning of their session everything shifted. The clouds cleared, the sunshine came out, and we were gifted the kind of weather photographers dream about.
One of my favorite parts of every engagement session is getting to know my couples beyond the inquiry emails. Spending a couple of hours together allows us to slow down, chat, laugh, and build a relationship before the wedding day. Destiny and Luis are genuinely some of the sweetest people. They admitted at the beginning of their session that they were nervous about being in front of the camera, which is something I hear all the time. Within just a few minutes, though, those nerves completely disappeared.
By the end of the evening, they looked like seasoned pros. Whether we were strolling through the gardens, taking in the incredible views, or simply letting them enjoy a quiet moment together, everything felt natural and effortless. Their chemistry made my job incredibly easy, and their joy together shines through every image.
I’m so thankful we made the trip and that the weather cooperated in the best possible way. Destiny and Luis, thank you for trusting me with this exciting season. I can’t wait to watch your wedding plans come together, and I’m so excited to share a few favorites from your beautiful Biltmore Estate engagement session!
