The White Room Family Session || The Lucheon Family

Why a Studio Session Was the Perfect Choice for Baby Sam’s Six Month Milestone

For families with young babies, choosing the right location for milestone photos can make all the difference. While I love outdoor sessions, there are certain seasons and stages of life where an indoor session makes more sense. This white room family session with the Lucheon family was the perfect example of that.

I’ve had the privilege of photographing so many chapters of Mary Beth and Josh’s story over the years. From their wedding to now celebrating baby Sam’s six month milestone. It means so much that they continue inviting me back to document their family’s biggest moments. Watching families grow is one of the greatest joys of my job, and the Lucheons are so special to me.

When we started planning Sam’s six-month session, we talked through location options. During the summer months, sunset doesn’t happen until much later in the evening, which can be tricky for babies. Around six months old, many little ones are settling into an earlier bedtime. The best natural light outdoors, however, often falls right when they’re becoming tired, hungry, and simply ready for bed. Add Tennessee’s summer heat into the mix, and it’s easy to see why outdoor photos aren’t always best.

Instead, I recommended The White Room Knox.

Because we were indoors, we were able to schedule around Sam’s nap instead of chasing the sunset. He arrived happy, well-rested, and ready to show off all of those sweet six month smiles. The air-conditioned studio kept everyone comfortable, and having a calm, controlled environment made the entire session feel relaxed from beginning to end.

There was another unexpected benefit, too. Big sister Evie! Instead of running around in wide open fields between photos, she was able to stay close by, making it easy for me to pull her into family portraits whenever I needed her. The smaller studio setting kept everything flowing smoothly and allowed us to capture plenty of genuine sibling moments between Evie and Sam.

One of my favorite things about The White Room is that the bright, timeless space never distracts from what matters most: the connection between your family. Every smile, cuddle, and tiny expression becomes the focus, creating photographs that will look just as beautiful years from now as they do today.

I’m so grateful for families like the Lucheons who continue trusting me to preserve these milestones. It feels like just yesterday we were photographing Sam as a newborn, and now he’s already halfway to his first birthday. I already know his 12 month session is going to be here before we know it, and I can’t wait to see how much he’s grown by then.
