Twin Newborn Session

Every newborn session feels like such a miracle to me. This one was extra special though because it was my very first twin newborn session. I’ve followed other photographers for years who capture twins and always admired how they gently pose two tiny babies together. So, when Katie told me they were having twins, I hoped they’d invite me to capture their first year. When Katie texted asking about my Baby’s First Year package, I quite literally did a happy dance!

But the bigger story here is not about me. Undoubtedly, it’s about how the Lord’s hand wove through every part of Hayes and Hudson’s birth story.

At one of Katie’s last doctor’s appointments, she learned she was already a little dilated. Her doctor cautioned her to pay close attention for preterm labor. Knowing she and Lucas live two hours from Knoxville, Katie immediately began praying the boys would stay put long enough for her to complete her maternity photos. Amazingly, just a week after our session, she went into preterm labor and was on hospital bedrest for four weeks. Twice, she labored for hours with consistent contractions only for them to stop completely, without medication or medical reason. Each time, Katie saw it as the Lord answering her prayer to carry the boys just a little longer.

At exactly 35 weeks, she was released to go home. A week later, she went into labor again, and this time went to her home hospital. She was surrounded by the very doctor, midwife, and even a nurse who had personal ties to her family. It was clear to everyone that God had His hand on every detail. Then came the biggest answered prayer of all: despite how often twin deliveries end in c-sections, Katie delivered both boys vaginally—something her hospital hadn’t seen in nearly five years.

Meeting Hayes and Hudson at their twin newborn session at The White Room Studio was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Side by side, swaddled up together, they were the sweetest picture of God’s faithfulness. I couldn’t help but think of my own pregnancy “Jesus stories” (you can read them here) and how deeply spiritual it feels to witness new life come into the world.

Katie and Lucas, thank you for trusting me once again with your growing family’s memories. Hayes and Hudson, you are miracles, and it was an honor to capture your very first portraits.
