Oakes Farm Fall Engagement Session in a Sunflower Field

When Kaley and I first chatted on the phone about her and Patrick’s engagement session, she already had one thing in mind—sunflowers. She knew she wanted them involved somehow, but as luck would have it, the big sunflower fields that bloom around Knoxville in July had already withered away by the time we started planning. Still, I wasn’t about to give up that easily! I remembered that Oakes Farm—best known for their fall pumpkin patch and corn maze—always has a beautiful sunflower field that lasts well into autumn.

There was just one little challenge: their hours. If you’ve ever been to Oakes Farm, you know their open days don’t exactly line up with a photographer’s busy fall schedule. They’re only open Thursday through Sunday, and the one week they extend hours (fall break) happened to be the exact week I was out of town! But after some careful planning and calendar juggling, we managed to find a day that worked for everyone—and it was so worth it.

The entire Oakes Farm sunflower engagement session was magical from start to finish. Kaley and Patrick are absolutely adorable together, and their chemistry made every frame feel natural and full of joy. But the real magic happened during the final twenty minutes of our session. As the sun dipped just over the mountain range, the golden light poured through the sunflowers and everything started to glow. Those last few frames—soft, warm, and romantic—might be some of my favorite engagement photos I’ve taken all season.

Kaley and Patrick will be tying the knot at The Trillium at the end of next summer, and if their engagement session was any indication, their wedding day is going to be absolutely stunning. As you scroll through their gallery, keep an eye out for those final sunflower shots and the little honeybee buzzing around in her ring shot—they’re pure magic.
