Hadyn & Luke’s fall wedding at The Quarry was one for the books. Going into their wedding weekend, the forecast looked incredible with clear skies, crisp fall air, and the kind of light you dream about. I even told Hadyn at the rehearsal dinner that I wasn’t worried one bit about the 20% chance of rain. Well, the next morning, we all woke up to an absolute monsoon. Cue me feeling a little guilty for my confident forecast predictions!
But as the Lord does time and time again, the skies cleared exactly when we needed them to. We managed to photograph almost all of Hadyn & Luke’s portraits before the ceremony, and while thunder rolled in the distance, inside the walls of The Quarry, the skies turned blue with big fluffy clouds overhead. The overcast light made everything feel cool, romantic, and picture-perfect. What looked like a stressful forecast turned into one of the most beautiful ceremony backdrops I’ve ever seen.
The real magic, though, came later that night. As the reception kicked into high gear on The Quarry’s outdoor patio, the thunderstorm finally made its debut. Instead of running for cover, the guests fully embraced it. There’s something incredibly joyful and freeing about dancing in the rain, and Hadyn & Luke’s friends and family weren’t the least bit fazed by the downpour. I popped open my umbrella, shot one-handed, and captured some of the most fun dance floor images I’ve ever taken.
Though sparklers weren’t possible for the grand exit, the couple had UT pom poms on hand, and as everyone waved them inside The Carrara, the droplets from being outside flew through the air. It looked like it was raining indoors as Hadyn & Luke ran through the tunnel of cheering guests. Truly, the perfect ending to a day that reminded us all that even a thunderstorm can’t stop the joy of a wedding day.
