Downtown Knoxville Engagement || Dillon & Lacie

A Jesus Story for Dillon’s proposal to Lacie

As we walked around for this Downtown Knoxville engagement, laughing between prompts and chasing the best pockets of light, Dillon shared the story of how he proposed, and you guys, it’s one of those stories that just sticks with you.

Dillon planned the perfect proposal at Fall Creek Falls. If you’ve ever been, you know it’s a commitment. Mostly downhill on the way there, which means quite the hike back out. When they finally made it to the falls, ready for what was supposed to be the moment, they saw another couple getting engaged in the exact same spot.

And in that instant, Dillon made a decision.

He wasn’t going to do it.

He didn’t want to follow someone else’s proposal in the same place, in the same way. Instead, they took time to admire the view, soaking in the moment without any expectations. Then, something unexpected happened.

A woman approached them and offered to take their photo.

She took a few pictures, and Dillon suddenly realized this could actually be even better than his original plan. He walked over, casually asked her to take “just a couple more.” Giving no indication of what was about to happen.

Then, he walked back to Lacie, got down on one knee, and proposed.

She said yes (of course!), and when they looked back at the woman, she wasn’t just taking photos. She had switched to video and captured the entire moment. Even more, she was standing there crying.

When they walked over to thank her, she shared something that gave them chills. She and her husband had gotten engaged in that exact same spot, and he had since passed away. Being there to witness (and capture) Lacie and Dillon’s proposal meant more to her than they could have ever known.

After hiking all the way back to the parking lot, Lacie and Dillon decided to wait for her at their car so they could thank her again and celebrate together. But she never came back.

Almost like she had been placed there just for that moment.

Their story is such a beautiful reminder that even when plans shift, something greater can be unfolding. That sometimes the most meaningful moments are the ones we never could have orchestrated ourselves.

And honestly, that same feeling carried into their Downtown Knoxville engagement session. There’s a quiet steadiness between these two, a deep joy, and a trust that whatever comes their way, they’ll face it together.

Lacie and Dillon, your story is something truly special, and I feel so honored to get to capture this season for you.
