Engagement Session with a Horse that Blew Me Away!

There’s something so special about getting to photograph a couple in a place that holds meaning to them. This engagement session with a horse at Hunter Hollow Farm was exactly that. Tucked into the rolling hills of Lenoir City, this charming little farm was the perfect setting for Chelsea and Matt. Especially because they board their horse, Dandy, there.

From the very first phone call with Chelsea, I knew this session would be unique. She shared how much they love animals and how important it was to include not only their dogs, Mia and Pumbaa, but also their horse, Dandy. Now, here’s where things get a little funny. While I absolutely love horses and think they are some of the most majestic animals, I also happen to be allergic to them. It’s something I discovered back in middle school at horse camp. Thankfully, I’ve learned that as long as we stay outdoors, and I avoid barns and grooming, I’m totally fine.

So, yes, I may have been just a tiny bit nervous bringing that up, but Chelsea couldn’t have been more reassuring. Honestly, I’m so grateful they didn’t let that stop them from booking because this session turned out to be one of my favorites.

Dandy absolutely stole the show in the best way. I’ve photographed horses before, but I have never seen one quite like her. She would stand as still as a statue. Completely calm, completely cooperative, and just stunning in every frame. It was incredible to watch. You could tell it was a reflection of her personality and the way she’s cared for by Chelsea and Matt, as well as the environment at Hunter Hollow Farm.

And speaking of Matt, he is truly an animal whisperer. The way he connected with not just Dandy, but also Mia and Pumbaa, was something special to witness. You can tell animals trust him instantly. That kind of energy brought such a natural ease to the entire session.

This engagement session with a horse wasn’t just about beautiful scenery (although Hunter Hollow Farm delivered plenty of that). It was about telling Chelsea and Matt’s story in a way that felt authentic to who they are. Animal lovers, deeply connected, and completely in their element. Sessions like this are the perfect reminder that the best photos come from incorporating the things you love most.
