A Butterfly Wedding at Maple Grove Estate

It has been nearly 2 years since I first took this couple’s engagement photos at Baxter Gardens. It was so springy and colorful and fun. They were originally supposed to get married in May of 2022, but just a couple weeks beforehand, Samantha broke her foot. I felt so terrible for her. She reassured me this was not the end of the world, and as soon as she healed, they pick a postponement date! They chose March 25, 2023, and boy did they pick a date with the most BEAUTIFUL weather! It was mostly sunny, in the 70s, and the most perfect day for a butterfly wedding.

From the moment I walked into the bridal suite, I could feel Samantha’s excitement. She was overflowing with joy and smiles and all the beautiful things. I didn’t realize this going into the day, but she had chosen to have a butterfly wedding theme. If you’re from Knoxville, your mind probably went to Dolly Parton. If you’re not from Knoxville, you may have thought of it as an elementary school vibe. Let me tell you guys it was so whimsical and elegant and classy, and I was seriously blown away at how stunning and beautiful every single detail was. I had no idea butterflies could be done in such a magical way. Also, a tip of my hat to the florist who ordered all the little stick-on butterflies for the bouquets, signs, cake, and arbor. They were perfection.

This butterfly wedding included other really cool elements, too. The butterflies previously mentioned were so unique and gorgeous, but Samantha and Josh also had a blue Corvette, the cutest little bar on wheels, three dress changes, the BEST bridal party, a veil that actually blew naturally in the wind, epic lighting, and a sweetly emotional groom. One of my favorite parts from the day was when I came downstairs with the groom right after he opened his gift from the bride. He said, “Shew. So many emotions,” which seems like just a regular statement. Short, sweet, to the point. Obvious, considering it was his wedding day, but it was truly a reflection of their day in it’s entirety. Every time Josh looked at Samantha, he had a different kind of smile on. If I had to summarize that smile up in one word, I would say adoration. There were tears and crackling voices and laughter and red eyes and more smiles upon smiles. It was just an emotional day in the best kind of way.

So happy for Samantha and Josh. Thank you, guys, for letting me be a part of your glorious butterfly wedding day!
