Lakeshore Family Session || Beeson Family

There’s been a little theme running through so many of my portrait sessions lately, and it makes me SO happy. I keep getting to photograph past wedding couples who are now coming back with their growing families! The Beeson family is one of those couples, and getting to photograph Raquel and Garrett in this season with Camilla and Gabe is such a full-circle part of this job.

We met at Lakeshore Park for their latest Lakeshore family session, and I already knew going into it that there would be a lot of laughing.

Of all the families I photograph, the Beesons have a dynamic that reminds me so much of my own family. Some parents naturally lean toward the snuggly, calm interactions with their kids. And then there are parents like us.

Dustin and I have always been super physical and playful with our kids. We’re picking them up, throwing them around, chasing them, tickling them, wrestling with them. You get the idea. And Raquel and Garrett are the same way with Camilla and Gabe.

Because of that, I always know their gallery is going to be filled with some of my favorite candid images.

Of course, we get the photos of everyone looking at the camera because those absolutely deserve a spot on the wall. But then we play.

And that’s when the best stuff happens.

Camilla and Gabe get those huge, genuine, scrunchy-nose smiles because Mom and Dad are actually making them laugh. They’re being tossed into the air, chased through the grass, tickled, snuggled, and loved on in exactly the way they’re used to at home. There’s nothing forced about those reactions, and you can see it all over their faces.

Those are always my favorite images from their sessions.

Lakeshore Park gave us plenty of room to let the kids move, play, and be themselves while still giving us such a beautiful backdrop. It was the perfect setting for a family who isn’t afraid to turn their portrait session into a little bit of organized chaos.

One of the greatest gifts of photographing weddings for so many years is getting to see what happens after the wedding day. I photographed Raquel and Garrett as a bride and groom. Now, I get to see them as Mom and Dad, and I get to watch Camilla and Gabe grow and see this family return year after year.

I never take that for granted.

Beeson family, thank you for inviting me back into your lives for another year. Your laughter, your playfulness, and the way you genuinely enjoy being together make photographing you guys so much fun.

And as usual, the candids win. Every. Single. Time.
