A Micro Wedding at Hunter Valley Farm with a Blue Vintage Thunderbird

There are weddings I photograph where I feel like I’m just meeting the couple, and then there are weddings like Bethany and Alex’s Hunter Valley micro wedding where the story runs so much deeper. I go way back with this family. Bethany’s dad, Scott, was a close friend of my dad’s. We vacationed together, attended the same church, and at one point he even fixed my car after a fender bender in college. The connection didn’t stop there. I spent three summers nannying Bethany’s cousins and often babysat Bethany and her twin sister Carrie. To say this family holds a special place in my heart would be an understatement.

Since my dad passed in 2017, I’ve loved this family from afar through social media. So, when Bethany asked me to photograph her wedding, I felt incredibly honored. Fast forward to the wedding day, and I couldn’t help but feel a rush of memories. How in the world was the little girl I once babysat now walking down the aisle as a bride? Time is truly a thief.

Bethany’s approach to her wedding was nothing short of inspiring. She was one of the most laid-back brides I’ve ever worked with. Instead of stressing over every tiny detail, she fully trusted the incredible vendor team she hired to make the day seamless. That trust created space for her and Alex to simply be present, soaking in every moment of their intimate celebration at Hunter Valley Farm.

Of course, I have to mention Alex’s vintage car. I’m always cautious about asking grooms if we can incorporate classic cars into portraits, and most of the time I hear a polite but firm “no” when I suggest leaning against it. But Alex’s response? A big smile and an easy “oh yeah.” His relaxed, joyful energy matched Bethany’s perfectly, which made their day feel effortlessly them.

Photographing Bethany and Alex’s Hunter Valley Micro Wedding was not only special professionally but deeply personal. It undoubtedly reminded me of the beauty of lasting connections and how meaningful it is to be invited into such a milestone.
