Smoky Mountain Wedding

Suzie and Derek knew from the start that they wanted a Smoky Mountain wedding. They were planning from afar and initially wanted the Green Briar location. A few weeks before the wedding, a massive rain hit the area and completely flooded Green Briar. Ugh. Instead of letting that get under their skin, they rerouted and had their wedding at the Cosby picnic area. That area is about 75 minutes from where I live, and when you zoom in on the map, it’s hard to tell what exactly is around it as far as mountain views go. We had plans to get married in the forest by the creek/river, and then, they wanted to find some views for their second location. I did as much research via Google Maps as I could, but ultimately, I was planning to arrive early and do a little scouting for the second mountain view location.

Fast forward, and the day has arrived. I’ve exited off the interstate and am headed back into the mountains to the Cosby picnic area. I passed one of the starts of the Foothills Parkway, and though I didn’t have time to drive it right then, I was crossing my fingers it would lead us to some mountain views! We arrived, got them married right in front of the creek with their favorite people surrounding them, and celebrated with some music, toasts, and family formals afterwards. As everyone packed up to head to the cabin for a meal together, Suzie, Derek, and I headed to find views. Not a mile onto Foothills Parkway, and there was a pull off with the grandest view. Exactly what they wanted and even the lighting was coming from the right direction. It was perfect. We shot there, and I asked them if there was a different “look” they wanted. In response, they told me about maybe on a trail, in the forest. I didn’t know what was around the next corner, but I told them we’d keep driving and see what we could find. We are driving up the mountain getting higher and higher, and I just knew that there weren’t going to be any trails. There was pull off after pull off of views, and then, I turned another corner and what do you know? A trail head. Wow. So thankful we got everything this couple wanted. Who knew the Green Briar flooding would turn out to be such a blessing?
