When Kayla chose me as her wedding photographer, I started following her on Instagram. I immediately saw the bond she has with Skylar’s kiddos, and I immediately knew that I loved her. My parents divorced when I was a baby. I spent my life with different stepparents, and it was a toooouuuugh thing to balance. I know this doesn’t ring true across the board, but the version of stepparents I see in my couples when the instance presents itself is so so so different than the version of stepparents around in the 90s. It’s not that it’s gotten easier, but I think we have gotten better at loving children we are connected to by marriage vs. biology. And Kayla models this so beautifully.
Even in their Knoxville Botanical Garden engagement session, Kayla was gushing about how adorable and sweet and beautiful Skylar’s kids are. Honestly, I love the way they love each other just as much as I love the way she loves her bonus kids. I respect that tremendously because I know it’s hard. It’s hard on all parties, which shows the incredible heart she has.
I’m so thankful Kayla and Skylar have chosen me as their wedding photographer. Their wedding this fall is going to be GORGEOUS, and I can’t wait to meet the littles that aren’t that little because they are basically famous in my book.
