Castleton Farms Wedding

Danielle and Danny’s wedding this past Sunday was my first time shooting in the newly renovated Carriage House at Castleton Farms. If you haven’t seen the old Carriage House, it was all raw wood. It added a lot of orange tint to people’s skin tones, the decor, and well, basically everything. Although beautiful, it was very hard to edit. Over the past several months, they have remodeled the Carriage House, and it is AMAZING. All of that raw wood inside is now either white washed or stained dark, and the photos are so much cleaner. I’m in love. If you are looking for a barn vibe, I would look no further than Castleton Farm’s Carriage House.

Less about that and more about the beautiful Danielle and Danny! They didn’t have a super long engagement. We did their engagement photos back in the spring shortly after Danny proposed. They immediately hit the ground running with wedding planning, and Danielle knew EXACTLY what she wanted! As we were at their planning experience at Castleton, she would throw in, “a picture of ____ here, and a picture of _____ there.” She knew every answer to every question right away. As we approached the wedding day, we were texting and messaging ideas back and forth. I even made a folder of specifics she sent me on my phone to reference. I wanted to make sure I made her vision come to life.

Fast forward to the wedding day. Danielle knew she didn’t want to do a first look so after the ceremony, we rolled through family photos and specific bridal party photos. I was finally just with the two of them when I’m not kidding, three gigantic raindrops fell from the sky. My eyes got huge, and I immediately started moving her to cover. The closest coverage we could find was a tree, but it was still 50 feet away. Thankfully, Danielle’s dress had a MASSIVE train on it that Danny and I grabbed and threw over her head to protect her hair, makeup, and outside of her dress. Meanwhile, the venue was speeding around getting an umbrella to us as we moved to the manor to keep shooting their portraits at the house. To say it got a little chaotic is an understatement 😂 When we finally got up to the balcony of the house, I thought I would find Danielle in a frenzy of stress and worry. The rain opened up at this point, but as I looked at her face, it was nothing but cool, calm, and collected. No panic in her voice, still a sparkle in her eye, and pure happiness all over her face. My breath got a little lighter, and my heart stopped pounding. No amount of rain was going to keep her from literally having the best day of her life. I was so proud of her in that moment. It also helped that Danny was totally zen through the whole shuffle and kept his eyes on her the whole time.

While we photographed the amazing moments happening on the balcony with a sheet of rain pouring down just 2 feet from us, the clouds on the other side of that storm opened, and a crazy awesome sunset came out. It wasn’t 5 minutes later that the rain stopped, and we actually went back out onto the property to finish with some epic sunset photos.

You’ll see this progression in the photos, and I hope that if you’re ever in a situation where the weather doesn’t cooperate exactly how you want it to, you’ll channel your inner Dannielle and Danny and not let it steal your joy! Also, those rain shots are so cool and unique and wouldn’t have happened otherwise!
