Erin and Vinnie had the longest engagement ever. Quite possibly the longest out of all of my couples that had to reschedule. They were originally set to get married in June of 2020, which you’ll see on their beautiful flatlay below on their invite. They rescheduled to the fall of 2020, and then, they rescheduled again to October of 2021. They wanted to do a Saturday, but at the point of their second reschedule, all of the fall Saturdays for 2021 were taken for either myself or Castleton. I know it wasn’t ideal to them at the time to move to a Sunday, but they did so they could keep their venue, photographer, and videographer. I’m very thankful they did this because being a part of their day was incredibly special to me.
When Erin and Vinnie inquired originally, I was in my second trimester with Hazel. We met in the front room of our old house, and her mom had just had a knee replacement. We set their engagement session to happen the next time they were in town, and I was very big pregnant with Hazel at that point. Her mom had recovered from her knee replacement, and her dad had broken his ankle and recovered from that. We had no idea at that point what was about to hit in the beginning of 2020. We were just happy go lucky doing all the wedding talk and planning and fabulous engagement photos. I had Hazel, and come March of 2020, the pandemic hit. Erin and Vinnie were stuck in a tiny apartment in San Francisco for months. I felt so terrible for them because as quarantined as we were here, it was nothing compared to the restrictions California implemented on their residents. Then, the first reschedule happened. Surely we’ll be over this stupid virus by then we all said. Ha. COVID laughed in our faces as fall approached. The numbers went up again, and the second postponement happened. Instead of waiting to actually get married, Erin and Vinnie decided to tie the knot with their immediate family members on their annual summer vacation in North Carolina.
A lot of people have ask me about couples that do this. If they still enjoy their day as much as they would have if they hadn’t done a smaller ceremony beforehand, and I have to say very confidently that these couples appreciate their big celebration even more! They’ve waited longer for it, and they did the small, intimate thing to know the contrast between the two celebrations. This definitely stood true for Erin and Vinnie. At the end of the night, Erin, Vinnie, Danyelle (the venue coordinator), Spencer (the videographer), and I were standing in the foyer of the manor at Castleton Farms when Erin teared up and hugged each of us. A long, tight squeeze with a very heartfelt thank you for making this happen and for making it happen SO beautifully. These moments with my couples on their wedding day are ALWAYS some of my favorite and most memorable moments.
Thank you, Erin and Vinnie, for being so wonderful. For being so grateful. For still celebrating. Even if it was literally years since you had originally started planning. For everything. You are wonderful.
