Cake Smash at Baxter Gardens
I haven’t seen Hollis Guy since his newborn session a year ago. It’s so fun as the photographer to only get to come around every so often and see the radical change in the kids you get to watch grow up. The last time we were together, he was an infant. Sleeping all cute and swaddled. He was precious and perfect, and in his session, I photographed one of the most impactful newborn photos I’ve ever photographed. It was of him surrounded by all of the IVF needles Laramie used in her success of getting pregnant with him. It was moving and inspirational and showed even more just how purposeful it was that God brought this little man into existence.
Last week, we celebrated him turning ONE with a cake smash at Baxter Gardens. Like most boys, he enjoyed playing with the pea gravel, but definitely where he finds his happy place is in mom and dad’s arms. You can see his little face light up in so. many. photos. Honestly though, he is one of the happiest kiddos. In fact, I’ve been so fortunate this month that I’ve had a TON of really happy, smiley babes in front of my camera, and he was no different.
To get to the cake smash at Baxter Gardens, you’re going to have to scroll to the very end because of course we saved all the blue icing till the end. He really got into it, and it’s SUPER sweet. We tried giving him a bath afterwards, which he really wasn’t into, but ultimately, it led to being wrapped up in mommy and daddy’s arms in the field with the sun shining on them, and it’s one of my favorite images from the whole session. I love the shots looking at the camera smiling. I love the laughing and giggling and squinty eyes because the smile is so big, but the organic moments that unfold when a mom is trying to soothe and warm up her little man is so powerful.
