A Backyard Wildflower Wedding in Gibbs

There’s something incredibly special about a wedding that takes place in the very backyard where a bride grew up. Especially when the backyard transforms into a field of wildflowers. Rachael & Preston’s backyard wildflower wedding in Gibbs was every bit as joyful, personal, and breathtaking as you could imagine.

In the months leading up to their day, Rachael’s parents worked hard planting wildflowers across their property. Dreaming of what it would look like in full bloom come wedding day. That vision paid off in the most beautiful way. From the couple’s first look to portraits of Rachael & Preston tucked into tall blooms. Even guests snapping selfies with their phones. Those wildflowers became the backdrop to an unforgettable celebration of Rachael & Preston’s wedding day.

Preston, a proud Georgia fan (we’ll let it slide!), met Rachael during their junior year when he transferred to Central. Of course, I know Rachael’s area well. She actually went to the same high school my kids will attend. It’s such a joy to serve couples from North Knoxville. We undoubtedly have a special, tight-knit community here, and photographing weddings like Rachael & Preston’s is such an honor.

Of course, I would be remiss if I did not talk about the weather. When you plan your entire wedding outside, weather becomes a frequent topic of conversation leading up to the wedding day. The forecast was all over the place. But let me tell you, the rain held off right up until they finished outside portraits. Then, the rain began to fall, and the couple moved into the covered area of their reception tent along with all of their guests. And by the time golden hour arrived, the skies cleared and the sun added an orange glow for sunset portraits. The Lord truly hears every prayer, and I’ll never get over how often He clears the skies at just the right time. Here recently, it’s been part of almost every blog, but how can I not share each and every time! While it’s just rain to everyone not getting married that day, to the couple and their family and friends, it’s the difference between limited portrait locations and a calm wedding day.

This backyard wildflower wedding wasn’t just a celebration, it was also a labor of love. Full of prayerful moments, hometown charm, and so much beauty. Rachael & Preston, thank you so much for letting us be part of it all! Huge shoutout to my team that photographed this wedding. Cyd Weeks was their lead photographer and Mary Nelson was their assistant photographer. Without these ladies, this day would not have been possible as I was in Kentucky photographing a cousin’s wedding. It was a weekend full of festivities, and I’m so incredibly thankful to Cyd and Mary for delivering an AMAZING set of images to preserve Rachael & Preston’s day forever!
