Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Volunteer Landing Engagement

This month’s Wedding Planning 101 blog post is about engagement sessions. I wrote and published it early so I could use it in my new pricing guide. In the post, I talk about why it’s so important to have an engagement session, and why it’s so important your engagement session is with your wedding photographer. Well, Meredith and Matthew’s Knoxville Botanical and Volunteer Landing engagement session is the perfect example. At the beginning of our session, I started them off looking at each other. Like all couples, they looked at each other and started laughing. It’s kind of awkward at first…I TOTALLY get it. Then, it gets even more awkward when I say, “Alright, lean your foreheads in together,” and then one step further when I say, “Now, look at me with your cheeks together.” Matthew was laughing so hard like you want me to do what?! This cannot look good. I reaffirm them, they get into the pose, and I snap the shot. Fast forward to the end where we are finishing up their Volunteer Landing engagement session. I tell them, “Now, lean your cheeks in together, and look at me.” They do it without question like pros. In that moment, I stopped shooting and reminded them…see how far you’ve come? At the beginning, you thought this was so weird, and now, you’re doing it like a champ. So, the wedding day will be a breeze, which is why we do this!”

Also, it was SO much fun finishing up on the patio at Calhoun’s on the River with a couple of beers. Ladies, if you want a good way to get your man excited for your engagement session, just tell him he’s getting a beer and live music at the end of our session together!
