You guys know how I have this agreement with Jesus and rain on wedding days, right? I really don’t even check weather forecasts for wedding days until the night before (sometimes not even that), and I rarely remember to bring my clear umbrellas. He just ALWAYS comes through with parting the clouds in the most perfect timing that conveniently lines up with my schedule for outdoor portraits. Well, with portrait sessions, it doesn’t matter if it’s in the forecast to rain because we can easily push it to another day that has clear skies. In the case of Abby and Jimmy’s Volunteer Landing engagement session, there was no pushing it. Abby and Jimmy live in Bowling Green, KY, which means a 4-5 hour drive to come to Knoxville for their engagement photos. In my usual Amanda fashion, I didn’t even think to check the forecast. A couple hours before the Volunteer Landing engagement session, I get an alert on my watch that says “a rain shower is going to begin in 5 minutes”. When I saw it I was like oh shoot! is it suppose to rain today?? Knowing there was nothing we could do it about it at that point, I tried to not open the Weather Channel app again. The Lord knows…He knows they drove 4-5 hours to do this, and they can’t just make that trip easily again. He knows. So, just trust Him, Amanda. He literally ALWAYS pulls through. There is no reason not to trust Him. This is what I tell myself when things out of my control can make a situation not so great. Sure enough, you guys. We shot all over the Market Square area before heading to Volunteer Landing, and I’m not kidding when I say that it was in the last 5 frames that it began to sprinkle. When you get to the end of the post, look for the tiny rain drops against the darker parts of the image. That night it came a monsoon and poured all night long. Actually, into the whole day the next day. During which I had an engagement shoot and also experienced insane cloud partings right in the nick of time. Tonight, I’m encouraging you to just trust the Lord with even the tiniest of things like rain. He has pulled through time and time again. Think back to those moments where He has shown up for you, and use that to thicken your trust in Him. Thank Him for always having your back when you don’t deserve it. Then, shout His name from all of your platforms to encourage others to trust Him too :-). This Volunteer Landing engagement session is going down in my catalogue to remember next time I’m getting close to a sticky rain situation.
