There are some weddings that leave an imprint on your heart forever, and this Tayvin Gardens wedding undoubtedly was one of them. Not just because it was stunning (though it absolutely was), but because it was my family.
Dylana isn’t just a beautiful bride I had the honor of photographing. She’s also my sister-in-law. Firstly, to know Dylana is to love her. Even more than that, it’s to be loved by her. She overflows with compassion, joy, and presence in a way that’s hard to describe and even harder to forget. Now, Jarred gets a front-row seat to that kind of love for the rest of his life. What a gift. What a woman.
From the moment Dylana asked me to photograph the wedding, I knew I wanted to do more than just document the day. I also wanted to feel it with them. I wanted to show up not only as a professional, but as a sister, a bridesmaid (honorary or not), and someone who is forever changed by their love. So, I found a dress that matched the wedding party, slipped into both roles, and stood with them in every way I could.
Thank goodness for Cassidy Carson, an incredibly talented second shooter from Nashville, who surely made that dream possible. She captured the entire dance floor and gave me space to be present—to hold my babies close, to laugh and cry with my family, and to dance beside Dylana like sisters do. She even caught the sweetest photos of me and my kids busting a move. Images I will cherish for the rest of my life.
But the moments I keep replaying in my mind—and the photos I come back to again and again—are the ones of Dylana getting dressed with her mama. The quiet tears. The deep, knowing hug. The kind of love you don’t need words to understand. And then there was the first look with her dad… whew. Let’s just say I wasn’t the only one crying behind a camera.
I know it’s easy to say, “I have the best family ever,” but this isn’t surface-level billboard fluff. This is real. These people are good to their core. They love wide and deep and without hesitation. They show up, they lean in, and they truly see each other in a way most people only dream of. And they welcomed me into that kind of love so fully and so effortlessly. I’m undone by it. And now, I’m so excited for Jarred to experience the same.
Being both behind the lens and beside the bride on this day was the honor of a lifetime. Thank you, Dylana and Jarred, for trusting me, for including me, and for having one stellar Tayvin Gardens wedding!
