This wedding was a bit different than my standard Saturday. Normally, wherever I’m at for the day is where I arrive in the morning, but for Megan and Caleb we hopped all over Knoxville, literally, throughout their day. What is the most phenomenal part of this is that typically when we move around so much, we are far more susceptible to getting way off schedule. Between the traffic, making sure everyone leaves on time, and getting everyone to different places altogether, I’m not sure I’ve ever had a wedding with so many moving parts not get off schedule. But Megan and Caleb’s didn’t. I buffer about a half hour cushion into their timeline because it’s inevitable that we’ll need it, but we didn’t so they got an extra half hour of portraits instead. AND it’s a real miracle because this was also UT’s graduation weekend and we were downtown for the second half of the day moving from spot to spot. I’m not sure how we managed to avoid the graduation traffic but we did and I’m super thankful for it.
One of my favorite parts of this day was at the reception. Actually there were a couple favorite things at the reception. First, I had forgotten to show Megan and Caleb their mini cards I had printed with their engagement photos on the front before the ceremony. Instead of pulling them from their guests, I just laid them out at the bars and at the guestbook table for their guests to take. For those of you who have not been a bride or a guest at one of my weddings, my mini cards host 20 different engagement photos of the couple on the front of them and their gallery info and my contact info on the back. They are the size of a business card cut in half long ways and are a cute little takeaway for the guests at your wedding. Well, I’m getting candids of the couple saying their thank you’s to all the tables and they see one of the mini cards sitting at a table. They pick it up and say “what’s this??” and as they read it and look closer I see the revelation on their face and they both look up to me with this look of you shouldn’t have! But I’m so glad you did! on their face and I see how much they love them and oooooh it just gives me all the feels.
Fast forward to later in the evening. They still had their cheese bar out from cocktail hour and I had stollen 5 minutes to stand at a cocktail table and snack on some cheese. The bride’s parents are walking over to me and in my head I was afraid they were going to be upset that I was taking a snack break. But no way (and I knew better because they’re totally not that type), Megan’s mom gave me the tightest squeeze and said with so much heart THANK YOU for today… truly… thank you so much for everything you’ve done, this day has been amazing and I swear in that moment you guys, I almost started crying. I ALWAYS want and expect my couples to feel that way. I will always do whatever it takes to make my couples feel that way. But for that to be relayed also to parents of the couple just made me so so happy. Being a parent now, I realize how special my child’s wedding day is going to be to me. To see them marry someone that will make them so happy and to watch them start on this adventure together… it is a big day you guys. I have never taken it lightly but there’s a whole new parent perspective I’ve gained since having Grayson and Hazel. I’m so thankful for them for relaying that feeling to me and I’m so thankful to have been a part of their wonderful day!
