I have shot all over the Southern Railway Station building, but I had never been in this particular ballroom. Gosh, it is amazing! The very first thing that stole my photographer heart was the windows lining either side of the room flooding it with natural light. I walked in and immediately knew exactly where I was taking dress and detail pictures, without a doubt. Not only is it flooded with amazing sunlight, but it also offers light colors on the walls and the ceilings so that when the sun is down, it’s still so easy to artificially light the room and make it gorgeous. Then, there are the fabulous fireplaces that mirror one another and give some character to the room. Speaking of character, the big metal columns posted on either side of the dance floor are such a pretty contrast to the bright and airy vibe of the room. Couple this venue with this bride’s Anthropologie style, and you have me over here drooling. I have noticed this year that I’ve had more brides have formal place settings for every guest, and I am really really liking it. Especially, this dusty blue that Katherine used throughout the entire room. I’m dying to get my hands on one of those table runners she had on her head table. I just know that this Southern Railway Station wedding is going to blow you away…in a good way :-).
Katherine and Jonathan got married at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Downtown Knoxville. I don’t know if you’ve seen this church or not, but it is stunning. Afterwards, they had their reception at the Southern Railway Station, and the whole thing was absolutely gorgeous. When couples want to get married in a Catholic church, usually the latest they will let you have the ceremony is 3:30. So, you are forced to either have an early dinner with a looooong reception, or have this huge, awkward gap of time between when your ceremony ends and your reception begins. Or there’s one more option, and this is what Katherine & Jonathan did. They had their ceremony at 3:30, they had a decently long reception, and then, they had an after party at Maple Hall, the underground bowling alley on Gay Street. It was so so so much fun. This allowed them to enjoy time with all of their guests and for most everyone to get to participate in the official reception exit. Then, for everyone else who didn’t want the night to end, they could join them at the bowling alley for drinks, bar food, and some super fun bowling. I followed them to Maple Hall, which is documented in the very last set of pictures you’ll see below, and it was seriously so much fun. I would say they had 20-30 people show up. Obviously, not everyone bowled, but they had the two lane room rented out, which literally was like an extended reception. Plus, Katherine & Jonathan were in much more comfortable clothes and shoes! Anyways, if you are having a reception that ends a little earlier in the evening, but you don’t really want it to end, I would highly recommend an after party!
