A 2-part Senior Session
You may see the title above and think, “that’s a lot of locations for one senior session,” and you wouldn’t be wrong. It’s more than I usually do for a senior session, and that’s because Sowmya actually broke her senior session up into a 1 hour session on a Tuesday and a separate 30 minute session on a Friday. On Tuesday, we met at UT Gardens and walked around for about 25 minutes. Then, we hopped in the car and drove downtown to shoot for about 25 minutes. Sowmya is graduating from Webb School of Knoxville, and although she hasn’t fully decided where she wants to go to college, she’s leaning towards going to a university in the Nashville area. She wants to be a doctor so Vanderbilt is top on her list.
You may have seen recently that my little boy, Grayson, answered doctor! when asked recently what he wanted to be when he grew up. I immediately felt beaming pride and a little like I was winning at this whole parenting thing. His answer will change a thousand times between now and college and probably a hundred more times between freshman and senior of college, but in that moment, I was so proud of him. Why though?? He’s just a four year old boy. He doesn’t really have any idea what it takes to be a doctor or what they actually do. Sowmya’s older brother also wants to be a doctor, and I cannot imagine how Sowmya’s parents must feel that both their children are BECOMING doctors. I admire the medical field SO much and all the people that serve in it for so many reasons. Not only the emotional craziness that comes with it, but the long hours and pressure of getting it right. Honestly, it’s just not the way my brain functions at all so of course, I’m in awe of people with medical careers.
I am so excited for Sowmya and all that life has for her in these next four years. I know she’s going to love college life, and I hope that she loves pre-med too!
