Millie Mae’s Newborn Session at The Studio at Fountain City

Millie Mae is the daughter of Lexie Bess of Bess Photo. She is an incredible senior photographer that chose me as her newborn photographer. It’s always so humbling when other photographers choose you. I know I’ve talked about this a million times so I don’t need to go on and on, but I did just want to say a big thank you to Lexie for trusting me with this sacred time with little Millie Mae.

One thing I am SO thankful for with having a studio is getting to shoot newborns in it. There are no other options with a newborn. You don’t shoot them outside, and the only other option is going to people’s houses. Sometimes, it works out great because their homes are beautiful with so much natural light. Other times, it’s hard because it’s dark, and there aren’t a lot of surfaces to use. I always give my newborn clients a choice of doing their home or my studio. In this case, Lexie and James chose to do it at my studio. They brought all the props, and I LOVED shooting their Millie Mae. One thing a little unique I got to do with Millie was to incorporate James’s officer badge and military uniform. It was fun getting to honor him in this way because man, what a sacrifice they all make as he serves our city and our country. You would think a man that serves in such ways would be so hard and calloused, and from my personal experience and conversations, they usually are. What they see on a regular basis is just so much more depressing than what an average person sees, but James has a soft side his daughter brought out in the most beautiful way. Millie Mae is already proving to be a daddy’s girl, and while sometimes I wouldn’t say that in a blog post, Lexie was saying it herself during the newborn session and was loving how much Millie and James had bonded. It really was precious, and I think every time he calmed her down or kissed her head, Lexie physically melted to the floor.

I had so much fun with this little family and am so honored to have gotten to preserve these memories for them forever!
