This was the first wedding this year that truly felt like fall, and it was faaaaabulous. I’m so glad it happened for this couple because they are cold weather people, and they had guests from Atlanta, Kansas, Missouri, Maine, and beyond. What better time of year to visit the Great Smoky Mountain National Park? This is the second Sampson’s Hollow fall wedding that I’ve shot since I moved back to Knoxville from Nashville. The other being Kenzie & Jackson’s wedding a couple of years ago. Jackie & Chris’ day took a different spin though. They got married back in Sarah’s Glen where I saw the most beautiful arbor I’ve ever seen at a Sampson’s Hollow fall wedding. I’m definitely not a flower expert, but the little ombre ones hanging down were my FAVE. I’m adding them to my list of favorite flowers along with ranunculus, peonies, garden roses, & eucalyptus. This arbor was to DIE for. I especially loved how many leaves were already on the ground back in Sarah’s Glen because it just made it that much more fall-ish. They had pumpkins scattered around the property here and there, which was probably a combination of both the venue and Jackie. They also had all their guests seated inside together, and they would transition to the porch for the special events all together. So, anywho, that’s enough of the technical talk because I have a favorite story to share from the day.
I’m excited to share this particular story because it happened before the ceremony, which means Jackie has no clue that this even happened. Right before taking groomsmen photos, I walk down to the reception area to get their boutonnieres. The florist (also Sampson’s Hollow) had put together two for Chris to choose from. I’m not saying this happens ALL the time, but I have seen it a few times where the florist gives the groom the choice of which boutonniere he wants to wear. Every single time, the groom says I don’t care…go ask [insert bride’s name here]. Then, I’m stuck there waiting for 10 minutes while the person runs to ask the bride, and in the meantime, we are getting later and later for pictures. When that question was posed to Chris, he looked at both options and picked one confidently. I looked at him and said Thank YOU!!!! I love that you cared enough to pick one! and he said (this is the best part of the whole story) I know what Jackie would have wanted me to pick so I picked that one. In that one simple statement, his love for his bride shined so bright it brought the cheesiest grin to my face. That right there, Jackie, is your husband. 🙂
I’m so thankful that I got to be a part of Jackie & Chris’ Sampson’s Hollow fall wedding!
