There has been a lot of talk around Knoxville about the bald mountain at Roan Mountain State Park. Most of us photographers go to Max Patch, but then, a new location came into the conversation. This was the first time I got to try it out. It’s a little scary going to a place for the first time with real clients. Ideally, I would want to at least try it out before taking someone there, but when the place in question is a 2.5 hour drive, that’s not really possible. So, when Lexie and Brett told me they wanted something with mountain views, I suggested Roan Mountain with the acknowledgment that I hadn’t been there, and I didn’t know for sure what to expect. But they are adventurers and decided it was worth it. I’m so thankful because wow. Just wow. It is absolutely GORGEOUS up there, and a huge perk is we didn’t have to drive that crazy gravel road you have to drive to get to Max Patch.
As we hiked to the top, I learned how appropriate this location is for Lexie and Brett. Not only does Brett do a big camping trip with his guys every year, but also, when I looked on Lexie’s social media, it’s her and Brett standing at the tip of this massive rock with mountains layering behind them. I love shooting couples in locations that allude to the people they are and the things they enjoy. I can say in full confidence these two enjoy the mountains, and it was perfect getting to take them to the mountains for their engagement photos!
