There’s something about a wedding day in the rain that immediately reveals a couple’s personality. Some couples get flustered, while others decide the weather won’t steal their joy. Emily and Trevor were absolutely the second kind. Their rainy Ramble Creek wedding ended up feeling romantic, emotional, hilarious, and unforgettable all at once.
Before the day even officially began, Trevor had one of the cutest first looks I’ve ever photographed with their dachshund, Indie. Indie was dressed in a tiny wedding dress, and Trevor fully committed to the moment. The photos are genuinely impossible not to smile at. It was playful and personal and such a perfect reflection of the kind of wedding day Emily and Trevor created: meaningful yet a little playful.
Then came Emily and Trevor’s actual first look, which felt completely different in the sweetest way. When they exchanged private vows, they asked everyone to step away — including me and my second shooter. We gave them their space and watched quietly from inside through the windows. Through the glass, we caught Trevor wiping away a tear, the only time all day he got emotional like that. It felt incredibly intimate and special, and I love that they protected that moment for just the two of them.
The weather throughout the day was all over the place. One minute it would drizzle, the next it would pour, and then suddenly clear up again. I’m so thankful Emily trusted me enough to keep adventuring around Ramble Creek between rain showers. There were definitely moments where we all got caught in it a little, but thankfully umbrellas saved the day more than once. And truly, the photos under the covered bridge made every bit of it worth it.
One of the crowd favorite moments from the day had to be the three grandmothers serving as flower girls. I absolutely love this trend and sincerely hope it never disappears from weddings. It was adorable watching them walk down the aisle together, and honestly, when I’m a grandmother someday, I hope I get recruited, too.
There were also so many emotional moments woven throughout the day. Emily dedicated her bouquet to her mom, and you can immediately see the emotion all over everyone’s faces during that moment. But the dance that completely stole the show was Emily’s dance with her dad. Halfway through the song, Emily’s sister joined them on the dance floor, and their dad danced with both of his girls together. There were tears everywhere — not just from family, but from guests watching too.
Even without a sunset, Emily and Trevor fully embraced the rainy atmosphere for their portraits. At the end of the night, we created some rainy nighttime images with an umbrella and the rain illuminated around them, and they are some of my favorite images from the entire day. They didn’t fight the weather once. They simply chose to enjoy their wedding day exactly as it came.
And finally, after their grand exit, Emily poured a beer straight into Trevor’s mouth while everyone laughed around them. Trevor handled it like an absolute champ, and it was the perfect ending to a day that felt joyful, emotional, chaotic in the best way, and completely true to them.
