Kate is a Knoxville senior at Hardin Valley Academy. She’s looking into a few different out of state colleges but has yet to determine which one she’ll call home for the next four years. It’s crazy to think that as a senior in college… with the whole united states as your option… you choose where the next four years of your life will be spent. 4 years. That is a long time. And those four years just may be some of the most critical four years of your life. It’s the time that you transition from being a dependent to an independent. A kid to an adult. A minor to a major. In those four years you might meet your future husband. In those four years you will likely choose a career you’ll do until you retire. You will definitely make friendships that will go with you for the rest of your life. You learn a whole other type of responsibility and try your hardest to not be in too much debt when you graduate. As your choosing the college you want this big life transition to happen at, you have the added pressure of being a Knoxville senior and living in a college town. Most of your peers are probably planning on going to the University of Tennessee and are confused when you say that you want to go somewhere else. Moving away from your parents isn’t for everyone, but I will say that I’m so glad that I did. It required more effort and more work but made me appreciate all they did for me a little more. I’m so excited for Kate and this next season of her life. I know she’s going to just love it!
