Rebekah and David’s Castleton Estate wedding was one of two weddings I photographed during the weekend of October 17. And of all the weekends to have a doubleheader, this was the perfect one! The weather could not have been more beautiful. The light was warm and glowy, the temperature was wonderful, and the leaves had just begun changing across East Tennessee. Every part of their celebration felt like fall wedding magic.
My time with Rebekah and David began the evening before their wedding when I joined them for their rehearsal dinner. I always love photographing rehearsal dinners because they give me an opportunity to meet the couple’s wedding party and family members before the excitement of the wedding day begins. By the next morning, so many of the people in front of my camera already felt familiar.
At the rehearsal dinner, I was introduced to David’s grandfather, who is also a camera fanatic. He told me that photography is one of his favorite hobbies and promised that he would stay out of my way. Little did he know, I was genuinely thrilled that he would be taking photographs too!
I know it may sound unusual for a professional photographer to be excited about a family member bringing a nice camera, but imagining Rebekah and David seeing their wedding through his eyes made my heart so happy. They will have his unique perspective of the day alongside their professional wedding gallery. I also captured several photographs of him holding the camera to his face and documenting the celebration. Honestly, I imagine that is exactly how I will be at my own grandchildren’s weddings someday!
Another meaningful family detail appeared when Rebekah and David cut their wedding cake. Instead of using a traditional cake knife, they used a generational family sword that belonged to David’s grandfather. David comes from a long line of military men and attended The Citadel. Some of the stories he and his groomsmen shared from that season of their lives had all of us laughing!
From the beautiful weather and glowing light to the deeply personal family traditions, Rebekah and David’s Castleton Estate wedding was absolutely perfect. I am beyond thankful that they invited me to document their celebration. I am completely obsessed with the images we created—not only on their wedding day, but also during Rebekah’s bridal portraits and their engagement session. Their entire journey was such a joy to photograph, and this unforgettable East Tennessee wedding will always hold a special place in my heart.
