Baby Tanner’s newborn session at The White Room Studio was one I had been looking forward to for weeks. Ever since capturing Kari and Stefan’s maternity session while they were waiting for him to arrive.
Kari had a feeling from the beginning that Tanner might follow in his big sister’s footsteps. When she was pregnant with Cadence, she went into labor early, but Cadence was still healthy and fully grown. As her pregnancy with Tanner progressed, that same intuition stuck with her, and she was absolutely right. Tanner made his arrival almost at the exact same point in pregnancy as Cadence did. It’s always amazing how a mother’s instincts can be so spot on.
Getting to see this family step into life as a family of four was such a joy. Cadence, now a big sister, completely stole my heart all over again. She stepped into her new role so naturally. Full of snuggles, sweet kisses, and the kind of excitement only a proud big sibling can bring. She even took her job seriously when it came to helping keep Tanner calm and cozy, doing her part to help him stay nice and sleepy throughout the session.
One of my favorite parts was seeing the connection I had already been built with Cadence during their maternity session. I had made it a point to really connect with her then. Earning her trust, playing with her, and yes, racing her through World’s Fair Park (which she totally won). So, when she walked into The White Room Studio for Tanner’s newborn session and immediately asked if we could race again, I knew that trust was still there. And of course, we raced multiple times, and she won every time.
That trust made such a difference. When it came time for photos, Cadence was all in. Happy to help, eager to snuggle her baby brother, and completely comfortable in front of my camera. And sweet Tanner was an absolute dream. Calm, cozy, and perfectly content for his debut session.
Walking alongside families through these seasons is something I never take for granted. I cannot wait for the Clark family to relive these moments through their images for years to come.
