Covered Bridge Family Session

You know how sometimes you hear something for the 1000th time and that last time just hits differently? It strikes some epiphany that results in a different emotion than you’ve ever felt the other 999 times you heard it. You wonder why it hit differently that time than any other time. I find this happens a lot with song lyrics. Especially religious song lyrics. Well, I had one of those moments during this Covered Bridge family session.

When Mandy reached out to me about shooting her little family, she pointed out the connection we had over our passion for Hope Resource Center. But not only was she passionate about the babies, but she also had a heart for the women making the hard choice to not abort their babies. One of the things that pull my heartstrings when taking photos for Hope are the pregnant mamas I am loving on. I want them to feel loved. supported. valued. respected. I can’t remember exactly what happened, but for some reason it took me a week to get back to her. If you know me, that is highly unusual. I typically respond to inquiries within hours… not days. It’s only when things get out of control with my editing list that it takes me days to respond to emails. When I went to respond to Mandy’s email, I felt this overpowering desire to work with her and her family as we bonded over something so special and near and dear to my heart. But I had waited too long and she had already booked with another photographer. She mentioned that she felt she needed to honor her commitment to this photographer but that she would contact me next year. I agreed with her and left the interaction with “can’t wait to work with you next year… maybe I’ll see you at Hope before then!”. A couple weeks later, I got an email from Mandy saying that her photographer had to cancel on her for whatever reason and she was back in the market for a family photographer. I happily responded to her telling her that I did have some availability still and I would love to work together.

Fast forward to our session and I bring up how crazy it was that her original photographer just happened to cancel and we were able to work together after all. It was destiny. In the middle of saying this, one of these epiphany moments happened. It did not truly matter who photographed their covered bridge family photos. It did not truly matter that they were my client particularly. It wasn’t some life or death or course-altering situation. But the Lord cared enough to shift things around so that we could work together. It wasn’t even something that I prayed asking Him to do, and I’m sure the same is true for Mandy. But it doesn’t have to be life or death for the Lord to care. It doesn’t even necessarily have to be something that you directly ask the Lord about. He lives within us. He knows our desires. Sometimes he’s waiting for us to ask, but sometimes he goes before us, knowing the desires of our hearts, and shifts things around to make certain pieces fall into place. What a loving Father we have that he cares even for the most petty, unimportant things in our lives. It just hit differently at that moment. It settled somewhere deep into my soul that it doesn’t have to be a life-altering situation for God to care and show up in a very tangible way.

But that’s it. That was my epiphany and I hope someone else finds this extra interesting too 😉

P.S. This covered bridge family session was in the Sicard’s neighborhood. Photographers are not allowed to bring in other families not a part of this neighborhood to photograph them here! Just a heads up!
