UT Gardens 1 Year Old Session

Sweet, tiny Camila did SO good at her UT Gardens 1 year old session. She was smiley and playful the entire time. I always tell families the key to shooting little kids is similar to shooting a wedding day. It’s not about the lens, the lighting, the posing, or the settings. All of those things are important, but all of those things can be controlled. You can prepare and learn and ensure those things happen at the right time and at the right spot. The key to having amazing, authentic portraits of babies and small children and wedding day images is to be ready. No matter how amazing I may be at posing, it will never be as good as how the real moment unfolds.

At Camila’s UT Gardens 1 year old session, I had Camila ride on Garrett’s shoulders for a photo. I took a picture of the whole family with Camila up there, and it was good. As soon as I put my camera down, however, Camila slid around to one side and pulled Garrett’s hair so his head was looking up at her. THAT picture was 10 times better than the original moment. I couldn’t have coached Camila into that. I couldn’t have made that moment unfold, but because I was ready, I threw my camera back up and started shooting again. It’s just SO stinking cute.

I have photographed this family so many times, and every time, I love the photos more and more. They have a joy for life that is so contagious and just so beautiful. So thankful to them for letting me come back and capture these milestone moments over and over again 😁
