The Studio at Fountain City Newborn Session

I got to shoot another newborn session at The Studio at Fountain City last week. It was precious and sweet and little miss Kinsley Grace did wonderfully. I absolutely adore getting to shoot all these newborn sessions recently. I think my AMP brides have all decided to get pregnant around the same time because in the newborn folder on my hard drive I have 9 different sessions this year already! That is nothing compared to what a newborn photographer would have, but I am a wedding photographer you guys. I don’t get a ton of opportunities to shoot newborns. Typically, I do 2-3 newborn sessions for the whole year. So I’m grateful today as I’m writing this blog.

If you’ve ever talked kids with me, you have probably heard me say that I’m so not a great “newborn mom”. I think there is this stigma in our society that says all women should love the newborn phase. But you guys… I’m here to tell you that if I could skip over the whole pregnancy and the first 6 months after birth, I would do it in a heartbeat. That phase for me personally is HARD. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love newborns. The parts of the newborn phase that I do love is the cuddles (of course). The squeaks. The stretches. The little sneezes and yawns. The smells. The teensy weensy fingers and toes. The eyelashes. The tininess. And you know what I get in all these newborn sessions? ALL. OF. THAT. And I LOVE it.

I know it’s exhausting and the nights are so so so long. I know it’s miserable when they just will not stop crying and you’ve done all that you can do. I know it’s frustrating when you need to take a shower and they won’t let you sit them down for even 5 seconds, much less 10 minutes. I know your boobs and your body straight up HURTS. But I promise you… you will look back at this time at some point and think that it flew by. I’m not saying that everyone wants to go back to it, but it is a blip on the map that is parenting and it’s okay for it not to be your favorite.

I’ve felt so convicted since becoming a mom to speak up about the part of me that just doesn’t want to sit in the newborn phase forever. Some moms love it and I love that they love it, but for the ones that don’t… it’s okay. You are still an amazing mother. You can do this and you can do this better than ANYONE else because you are your child’s mother (biologically or not).

This post was meant for sweet Kinsley but Jesus had other plans and I think someone out there needs to read this and for that I am grateful.

Thank you so much to Kayla and Micah for letting me capture this sweet time for you guys! I’m already looking forward to the 6 month photos!
