Fountain City United Methodist + The Foundry Christmas Wedding
On December 22, 2018, Katie Bales married Chris Kelly at Fountain City United Methodist Church. Afterwards, we went to The Foundry in World’s Fair Site to celebrate with a reception. One of my favorite shots of the year came from this wedding. It’s the one with all the petals falling around the bridal party as Katie and Chris share a kiss. Those petals were not planned to be used as a photography prop, but a couple days before the wedding, Katie emailed me and told me that she and her mom had ordered enough flower petals to line the entire aisle at the church during the ceremony. It turns out, they don’t allow that. When you get to the ceremony pictures, you will see how long that aisle is. One of the longer ones I’ve seen. So, there were a TON of flower petals. She asked me if I could think of any way to use them on her wedding day for photos. Immediately, I saw this image unfold in my head. Umm…OF COURSE I can find something, and I sent her an example of what I was thinking. She loved it. It turned out better than I could have anticipated (mmhhmm…go bridal party!). There were so many petals that we also did one of just the two of them kissing with the petals coming down around. It was precious.
Let’s skip to The Foundry though. Being right before Christmas, Katie really embraced the whole Christmas idea. Which I LOVE by the way. Instead of putting the guests’ place cards at their tables, she set them on a Christmas tree to be displayed at the entrance. Also, for some of the table centerpieces, they had mini Christmas trees they got from an actual Christmas tree farm. And honestly, mini anything is adorable to me, so I was 100% sold on this idea before I even saw it. The party favors were little glass ornaments filled with all the makings of a cup of hot chocolate. The natural decor of The Foundry is, of course, the infamous icicle lights they have strung from their ceiling. It’s one of the reasons that The Foundry photographs so well, might I add. All of this was so tastefully done in a subtle but intentional way, and it is definitely one of my favorite Christmas weddings I’ve shot to date.
Katie and Chris chose to do something very unique for their exit. It was from their ceremony instead of their reception. This worked so well because at the end of the ceremony every single guest was in attendance. In this case, they did white balloons, but in every case, the more people you have to participate in the send off the prettier it is. This is why faux exits are becoming increasingly popular. So, if you plan on having a late reception after most of the guests have left, doing an exit from your ceremony is a fabulous idea to still get your “exit photos”!
