Grayson’s First Year

This blog post has been a long time coming. An entire year actually. Grayson was born on a Wednesday. And every single week for the last year, usually on Wednesday, sometimes on Thursday and once on a Sunday, we’ve done a little photo session. I’ve done a quick edit of the pictures, sent it out to all of our family, made a weekly post about him on social media, and then waited for the next Wednesday to roll around. In addition to my weekly pictures,we had maternity pictures by Erin Turner Photo and Lori Hensley Photography, I took some hospital pictures at St. Mary’s (I know I know, it’s Tenova Physicians Regional Medical Center now, but who says that?!… such a long name), we had newborn photos made by Mango Mahalo, and she also did a mommy and me session for me when Grayson was 5 months, and Erin Turner did a lifestyle session for me around Christmas.

I have thoroughly enjoyed putting together this blog post and a book (that is not shown here) that I’m going to have printed. I already know what you are all thinking though. She’ll never do it for the second child. She’s set the bar WAY too high for the next kid. But regardless of whether or not I do it for some unknown future child, I’m glad I did it for Grayson. Maybe looking back through these will encourage me to make time to do it for any other Fothergill children because I am beyond happy that I have these.

As you scroll through the images below you’ll notice that we have a very animated little guy. He is genuinely this happy all the time and is constantly contorting his face into odd expressions that make us laugh so hard. He’s already flown on an airplane, been to Florida, South Carolina, Nashville, Wyoming, and Yellowstone National Park. He loves puppies but we still don’t think we want one for our household. He got the biggest swing-set EVER for his birthday and LOVES swinging in the baby swing and sliding down the slide. He has been sleeping through the night since he was 12 weeks old thanks to this most amazing baby book schedule EVER (The Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg). He still has no teeth and he is 369 days old as I’m writing this. However, he is teething right now and has two large knots on his lower front gums. He loves loves loves water as much as his mommy. Eats EVERYTHING under the sun. Literally have found nothing he doesn’t like… well… except broccoli. He’s definitely not a broccoli fan. Being outside is his favorite. Even if it’s freezing. Any time he gets hurt, if I walk outside, he’s instantly better and ready to play. If the door opens, he’s running out of it. He loves his daddy so so much. He nursed until he was 342 days old (and lo and behold also go his first tooth RIGHT when he stopped nursing. Top left and his top right looks like it’s coming through ANY DAY now. Still no bottom teeth… even with huge bumps down there). He has gigantor feet, he’s already in a size 6 and owns a pair of size 7’s that fit him a little too well. He officially went frisbee golfing last weekend and rode in his stroller and watch Dustin and I play and really loved it! He dances in the most ADORABLE way and waves and kisses and hugs and sings and throws… really everything he does is in the most adorable way right now (saying this in full awareness that I’m completely and 100% biased). He’s had two haircuts at a salon and I can’t wait to take him to a barber shop. He walks outside barefoot on any terrain like a champ. He free falls off of any step or ledge so we have to watch him microscopically. He loves the blow dryer and vacuum cleaner because they are loud noises, but when I get them close to him he gets scared. He reaches up and messes with door handles but has yet to successfully open a door on his own. He can officially climb up on the couch by himself although would probably fall off head first getting down. He has started listening to us when we tell him “NO!” really loud and really stern. And honestly I feel like I could go on for daaaaaaays on more details on our little nugget but it’s getting long and I’m sure you guys just want to get to the pictures. So in summary, he’s a big dude with a big, sweet heart that has this whole family completely smitten.

His First Birthday!!!!!

  1. […] The Burton family just welcomed their third little girl to the family. They had her at UT Medical Center last Wednesday. By the time I was shooting these pictures on Thursday, big sisters were already smitten, mom was getting around like a CHAMP, dad was soothing little Avenly to sleep, and the whole gang was operating like they had been a family of 5 for years. I never understood the fresh 48 sessions until I had Grayson. How these little newborns look in the hospital is literally there for just a few short days. I tell moms scheduling newborn sessions in the first 5-10 days is absolutely necessary to getting a cooperative baby. Even by the time I take those photos, baby has changed drastically. The Burton family got a fresh 48 session the day after Avenly was born, a studio newborn session a week after, and a lifestyle newborn session 2 weeks after. So, for all you people out there that aren’t parents yet, you will see first hand just how much they change. I will be blogging every single one of these sessions and can’t wait for you to follow along this sweet baby’s journey with me. Just in case you aren’t convinced, I took weekly pictures of Grayson for his ENTIRE first year, and you can go see for yourself the change that happens week to week! Click here! […]
