Norris Lake Proposal
Todd and Ellie are ENGAGED, you guys! Todd reached out to me several months ago about proposing to his girlfriend while they were on a big family vacation on Norris Lake. Most everyone is from Ohio, and they come down to this area every year, rent a huge cabin, bring their boat, and lake it up all weekend. This year was going to be special though. This year, it wasn’t just a Norris Lake vacation. This year, it was a Norris Lake proposal. There were a few key members of the family in on it for months. Everyone else found out once they got to Norris Lake, but Ellie was completely surprised.
It’s funny sometimes with proposals. Being in on a secret you CANNOT give away. You make a plan with the proposer in hopes you remember the plan, he remembers the plan, and it all goes off without a hitch. Because if something does get messed up, it’s not like you can just talk about it and work through it right then and there. There’s usually something though that comes up unexpected that you have to discretely decide and make sure you’re on the same page with a couple looks and maybe some really generic words. This time, it was totally on me. Our plan was for me to get a big group shot, and then start sectioning family units off and getting individual households. Todd and Ellie would go last, and after I did “their photo,” he would drop to one knee and propose. Well, when his family got up there, I could see his phone bulging from his pocket. Without even thinking I said, “Oh…let’s take your phone out of your pocket,” like any good photographer. Phones in pockets and hair ties on wrists are the first thing we look for. But the phone in his pocket was covering up the giant ring box in his pocket. I watched his hand fidget in his pocket for a second before handing the phone off to an aunt, and then, I realized what I just did. Thank heavens it went perfect still. For the small instruction that could have given it all away, Todd, so sorry about that! You played it off amazingly though!
I’m so excited for Todd and Ellie to begin this new journey! They are so cute, and her reaction was literally perfect! Congrats, guys! Can’t wait to do my next Norris Lake proposal!
