This sweet little newborn girl is named Selah Mae. In case you’re wondering, Selah is pronounced “say-luh”. Does this word ring a bell with any of you? Are you wondering where these incredible parents got it from? It’s from the Bible. But its unique in that it’s not a person in the Bible, rather, it is a sign of worship. In Psalms, the word Selah is used 71 ones and it appears after verses. Lots and lots of scholars have discussed different interpretations of the word, but I think the general consensus is that it means to take a break or pause for a moment of worship. The Psalms are songs, so in this case, it’s taking a break from singing to stand in awe of our Lord and Savior. I can’t help but imagine all the angels singing in heaven and then pausing for a brief second to just stare at Jesus with happy tears in their eyes, big smiles on their faces, and so much joy overflowing from their hearts they can’t even contain it, so they burst out in song again to try and show God how much they love Him. That is Selah. But how does that translate on Earth? I think it’s a reminder that so so so so many of us need in today’s society. A reminder to stop. slow down. look around. breath in and then out and give thanks to Jesus for simply being. Push the pause button on life even for just a second to stand in awe of Him. Tell him how much you love Him and through that overflow of love, go and be His hands and feet on this Earth. How precious a name to give to their newborn girl. I love it so so much. I know this newborn girl is going to be a reminder to so many people she comes in contact with to pause and worship our King and I can’t think of anything more beautiful.
