Home Newborn Session

There are two primary types of newborn photographers. The ones that have you come to their studio because they have a bunch of props and a backdrop system. They have an off camera flash setup and a wardrobe for mom to wear. The babies are usually sound asleep for this entire session and sometimes naked. My favorite studio newborn photographers in Knoxville are Mango Mahalo and Haleigh Crabtree. If you’re on the hunt for one of these, Mango Mahalo JUST moved to another state. Kristy Barton is another great option though!

Then, there are ones that are fully lifestyle photographers. Most of the images are of baby sleeping or awake, being held in arms. It includes moments you have with baby day in and day out like nursing, reading books, swaddling, changing diapers, etc. There are not a ton of photographers who do this exclusively, but there is one local to Knoxville. She’s my absolute favorite, and her name is Bethany Sams Photography.

Then, there’s what I do. I don’t know a ton of photographers who offer what I offer for newborn photos, but it works well for me and my clients. When you book with me, you can choose between a studio newborn session or an in home session. Regardless of what you choose, I will start our time out with doing just baby. Usually sleeping from having just fed. I swaddle them and take some sleepy shots of them around their nursery or around my studio. Then, I invite the family to come in, and we’ll do some lifestyle-like photos and some posed smiling photos. Every family is different. Every family will have different comfort levels of leaving their home or having me in their home. Sometimes, nurseries are finished, and sometimes, they’re not. Sometimes, a baby sleeps great, and sometimes, it doesn’t. I have no “rules” for my newborn sessions. I have recommendations, but they don’t always work. The sun doesn’t have to be in the perfect spot, the toddler doesn’t have to be on their best behavior, the dog doesn’t have to be silent. It’s just a representation of your life in that season, which happens to be a little crazy sometimes ha!

I am absolutely so honored to have gotten to photograph sweet Camilla. She was so tiny and such a doll and really cooperated fabulously.
