You know those famous sunflower fields in TN that shower your news feeds every summer? Did you notice that they weren’t there last year? Yeah, I didn’t either until I started looking into it for this year and saw where Forks of the River did not harvest the sunflower fields last year. I am the opposite of an expert when it comes to growing things and gardens, but I think there is something about having to move things around because the same plant can’t flourish as well in the same spot as it did in years past due to using the nutrients from the Earth faster than the Earth can replenish them. Did I make this up? Possibly. But if not, and it is a thing, that explains why they needed to take a year off. To let the ground replenish. Well, I know they don’t bloom until July, but when I took Kerri to Forks of the River Wildlife Management Area to use other pieces of the property that are gorgeous, it kind of looked like there weren’t going to be sunflowers this year either. Unless they just shoot up really fast in June and right now they are still below the surface of the ground because there were no signs of sunflowers as of May 1. I will be sad to not see them on my feed again, but also know that when they do come back, they are going to be amazing because the ground is going to be so nutrient rich for them!
On another note, I’m so excited for Kerri! She just graduated 8 years of college with her doctorate in pharmacy! She is literally moving across the country to Arizona to kick off her career and I cannot imagine how good it feels to graduate after being in college for 8 years. Congratulations girl!
