So, the exit photos on a wedding day are always some of my favorites. Exiting the reception, but also, exiting the ceremony. For this couple, they are ranking in my favorites for the day, but also my favorites out of all my exit photos this year! Hence the reason that their featured photo is them exiting their chapel wedding reception! Their joy shone so bright and their smiles so big and genuine during these moments more than any other time of the day (besides when they were saying their sweet vows), and I think I figured out why. One of the first things that Ashley said to me was how important their family and friends are to them. She actually had their friend group join us during family photos because that’s the type of bond they have. During these moments of exiting the chapel wedding ceremony and exiting their reception, everyone lined up, and Ashley and Kevin get to make eye contact with every single friend and family member. The happiness that brought them radiates through their smiles. The love for this couple was overwhelmingly present, and it was such an honor to get to be there to witness it all.
Just two days later, I was actually having breakfast with one of Ashley’s work friends (that’s how she found me in the first place, I believe), and I was saying how envious I am of their friends. What a tight bond they have with such a large group of people that prioritize each other constantly. Normally, when people have such close friends (that really they’re like family), it’s because they either don’t have a big family or they aren’t close (sometimes geographically, sometimes relationally) to their biological family. That stereotype is definitely proven wrong by Ashley and Kevin. They both have big families, they both are super close with their families, and they both still have massive friend groups that are pretty much family. Do you know what that tells me? These two are amazing people. They are people that care. That put in the time and the effort it takes to cultivate a friendship. They prioritize their relationships, and they selflessly sacrifice for other people. That quality is undeniably a dying quality in today’s culture, and it breaks my heart. God did not mean for us to live this life alone. In a world where technology is slowly replacing real relationships, I can only pray that there are others watching the way Ashley and Kevin pursue their friendships and are learning that it really is worth the effort. Speaking to myself just as much as I am to anyone else :-).
