It’s not every day that I get asked to fly to another state to shoot engagement photos so let me tell you a little bit about this Lake Bistineau State Park and Air Force engagement session. I actually played college volleyball with Megan. When I started my photography business my senior year, I swear, she was my biggest supporter. As you can see, she is stunning, and actually, had a lot of model experience growing up with a photographer friend of hers. She volunteered to let me practice on her a lot while we were both at Cumberland, and I’m so thankful because that first year was rough. When artists talk about looking back at their old work and cringing… that is me. I cringe at that first year. None-the-less, she stuck with me with patience, and for that, I am forever grateful.
Fast forward a couple years later, and she meets Davis in Pensacola where he is training for the Air Force. As she is telling me their story and how she’s going to move to Shreveport, LA to be with him, it only made more and more sense for me to fly to them with 1 plane ticket rather than them fly to me with two plane tickets. This way, we would get to incorporate the cypress trees and Spanish moss at Lake Bistineau State Park and Davis’s flight suit for the Air Force engagement photos. I’m so thankful to these two for having me in their home for nearly 3 days and making me feel so so welcome and so so comfortable. Megan had only been there for a month before I arrived, but Davis taught her well with the best local things in Shreveport. We got daiquiris, had chicken and gravy+seasoning, toured the Air Force base, did a beer tasting at a local brewery, ate at the best brunch spot, which was an auto repair store in it’s previous life, had some delicious margaritas at the hoppin’ local Mexican restaurant, AND I still managed to squeeze in a little computer work, a whole engagement session, and 8 chapters of my book. I cannot thank Megan and Davis enough for showing me SUCH a good time.
Next time, I’m coming in the winter though, because that heat is no. joke.
Side story. When we were on the Air Force base taking sunrise photos, there were a bunch of retired men playing golf. As we are shooting right beside the golf course, one of the carts whizzes across the street, and the man on it says, “Hey, honey…HEY…turn around.” We realize that he’s talking to Megan, so she turns around. The guy quickly looks her in the face, looks back at Davis, and says, “You did good Lieutenant,” then, goes on to the next hole. We all three started dying laughing. It’s like, what would he have said if Megan wasn’t as gorgeous in the face? Better luck next time son… or eeeehhhhh, you could do better… we were throwing all kinds of side scenarios out there. I think possibly that was my favorite moment from the whole trip and smile every time I think about it.

Great pictures but I don’t think there has ever been a camera made that didn’t love that girl.
Agreed! They were both so photogenic!
I love the pictures you took of Davis and Megan. I had so show all my friends the picture of the B-52 with them at sunrise.
