There’s something so grounding about a wedding day that keeps its focus exactly where it belongs, and this Catholic wedding at The Press Room for Julia and Kirk did just that. Even with a 99% chance of rain in the forecast, nothing about this day felt uncertain. From the very beginning, it was clear that their joy in getting married outweighed everything else.
Julia and Kirk’s story began at a gaming conference, and pieces of that shared world were woven so thoughtfully throughout their day. One of the most memorable (and honestly adorable) details was their love for bears. They incorporated it in the sweetest ways. Two bears perched on top of their wedding cake and the cutest little bear stir sticks tucked into their cocktails. It felt personal, playful, and completely them.
Their ceremony at All Saints Catholic Church was reverent and meaningful, filled with the kind of intentional moments that make Catholic ceremonies so powerful. From there, they made their way to Knoxville Botanical Gardens for portraits. Somehow, the weather gave them exactly what they needed. Despite rain throughout the day, it held off just long enough for them to capture some of the most beautiful, lush garden portraits before heading into their reception at The Press Room.
One of the most touching parts of the day was something I don’t see nearly often enough. Julia chose her mom as her maid of honor. It was such a meaningful decision, and watching their connection unfold throughout the day was incredibly special. I know so many brides share that same closeness with their moms, and this was such a beautiful reminder that there’s no rulebook when it comes to who stands beside you.
While I wasn’t physically present for this wedding day (I was capturing another celebration in Athens, Tennessee), my associate team—Brittany Conner as lead photographer alongside Cyd Weeks as her second shooter—served Julia and Kirk so well. The images reflect every bit of the joy, calm, and connection that defined their day, and I couldn’t be more proud of the way it was documented.
Rain or shine, this day was always going to be unforgettable, and it absolutely was.
