Mikia and Wes chose their August 1st wedding date from the beginning. When all of my April and May weddings rescheduled to August dates, August 1st was already reserved for Mikia and Wes’s vineyard wedding at Castleton Farms. When I met up with them to do their engagement photos, I asked them, “So, how does it feel to have a date that is pretty solid in regard to this whole corona thing?” They both started laughing and said, “We just got lucky.”
A lot of people have asked me what my weddings are like right now. Are people taking precautions or do they even care? I will say this…each wedding is different. Some are definitely more concerned than others. The younger the group, the less careful they are. As far as vendors go, however, everyone is taking all the precautions they can take. There is hand sanitizer EVERYWHERE. There are no buffets (or if there are, catering staff is serving the food instead of having each guest handle the serving-ware). There are masks available upon entrance. The chairs are more spaced out. The guest count is lower. For the outdoor weddings, fewer guests are wearing masks and are practicing social distancing instead. I will say the number of guests wearing masks at Mikia and Wes’s vineyard wedding at Castleton impressed me. More than half of the guests arrived to the ceremony wearing their mask, and they didn’t remove it until they were seated. It’s a weird time, but I am so so thankful that couples are going forward with their celebrations and still having an amazing time.
One of my favorite parts of this wedding day was the relationship Mikia has with her dad. Surprise surprise. ha! I feel like this is consistently a favorite of mine. She is their only child, and her daddy would have done anything necessary to give her a dream wedding. From the moment he saw her for the first time during their first look, he was all glossy-eyed with a big smile and just couldn’t stop saying how gorgeous she was or how her day was perfect. I even caught him showing the back of his tie, where a letter from Mikia was stitched, to a guest during the cocktail hour with a huge smile on his face. He is just so proud to call her his daughter, and it is so sweet. There were multiple times their interactions brought some wetness to my eyes.
I truly loved shooting this vineyard wedding at Castleton Farms. Mikia and Wes are amazing, and it was a pure honor to be a part of their gorgeous day!
