Mariah and Mitchell are from the Cleveland, TN area but drove up to Knoxville to have their engagement photos taken with their puppy. When we were discussing locations, Mariah had a more formal outfit in mind that she thought would look better in an urban backdrop… so of course I immediately suggest a downtown Knoxville engagement session. I LOVE downtown Knoxville so much. Everything about this little city steals my heart. I love all the local restaurants. I love market square. I love all the hidden alleys. I love the old buildings that have been restored but still look old. I love that we have three theaters on one street, all within .3 miles of each other. I love the orange and white lights that go across Henley street. The art work that litters Crutch Park and the fact that there is an Urban Outfitters killing it with their own storefront. I love that they still offer free parking on nights and weekends and the amount of joggers, dog walkers, and food trucks that are around at any given time. I love the greenway that is so flat and goes forever. The amount of coffee shops there are and how many musicians are playing on the sidewalks. I love this city. And it was the most perfect back drop for their outfits… let’s all agree that Mariah’s dress is fabulous. I will do a downtown Knoxville engagement session any.time.of.the.year.
I met Mariah and Mitchell through another couple that I photographed last year. Mitchell works with the groom at a job that requires them to travel constantly. They are usually home 1 weekend out of the month (except when there are holidays, but still). So I knew a) scheduling an engagement session was going to be difficult since they HAD to do a weekend and my weekends are mostly taken by weddings, and b) it would be so vitally important to make this time together so much fun since it was taking away 3-4 hours of what little time that they had together. So we hit the ground running and let me tell you how much they killed it. The whispers, the giggles, the tickles, the walking and kissing and gazing… I really had a hard time narrowing down which images to deliver. AND to top it all off, their little puppy, who is still a young, rambunctious puppy, was SO well behaved and when she was in the spotlight, she knew how to shine. She would look right at me when I wanted her to, right at them when I wanted her to, kiss them when I needed her to… I mean it was like she was a well trained mature dog. Mariah, Mitchell, and the puppy-sitters that joined us kept assuring me that she really isn’t this well behaved and this is such an anomaly. That just goes to show that the Lord had a plan and it was to get awesome pictures of these two for their downtown Knoxville engagement session!
